Straight answers about Helius self-checkout POS and Retail OS for Canadian retailers and micromarket operators.
Getting started
Helius Retail Technologies is a Canadian company that makes self-checkout POS software for micromarkets and small-format stores, plus Retail OS for fully unstaffed stores. It was built by a retail operator.
Micromarket operators and small-format retailers in Canada, especially operators already running self-checkout who want more control, better reporting, and less shrink.
Not yet. Helius currently serves Canadian operators only.
No. Every setup is different, so start with a consultation and we'll recommend the right plan.
Hardware and switching
Often not. Helius runs on existing self-checkout Lanes that use Windows or Android, Chrome or Edge, and a 2D or 3D barcode scanner. We'll check your current hardware before you commit.
Yes. Lanes, payment terminals, and cameras are available and quoted separately from the software.
Yes. We move operators onto Helius from the major micromarket self-checkout systems.
Plans and billing
Three self-checkout POS plans (Starter, Core, and Pro) and Retail OS, which is quoted per store. See /pricing for current plans.
Yes. Extra Lanes can be added to any POS plan, including Starter, through the Additional Lane add-on.
No. Starter covers one store. Multi-store operators need Core or Pro.
Plans are prepaid monthly, billed on the 1st of the month or prorated from your start date. There's no percentage of sales.
Card processing is charged by the payment processor, not by Helius. We'll show you the processor's rates during your consultation.
Payments and shrink
All major credit cards, debit, and mobile wallets. Helius checkout is cashless.
On the Pro plan and Retail OS, Helius connects POS events to your camera footage, so you can see the transaction and the video side by side.
The POS plans run self-checkout in a staffed or semi-staffed store. Retail OS adds mobile door access, customer registration, and camera integration so a store can run fully unstaffed.
